Maria Sjögren -
Cert. Physiotherapist, Ergonomist, Pilates Instructor
Are you a musician who wants to overcome pain, aches, or muscle tension, or do you feel hindered by nervousness, stress, or anxiety?
I have been a licensed physiotherapist since 1996 and have completed several advanced courses in physical and mental methods and exercise forms. I am also a nationally recognized violinist and have been a member of several groups and ensembles over the years. It was when I myself suffered from unpleasant stage fright and bow tremors that I began my search for more specific knowledge in the areas of musician ergonomics, nervousness, and performance. Today, I am passionate about helping other musicians find their optimal balance in their bodies and in their music-making.
A consultation with me means that we work with the tools, conversations, training, or manual treatment that you need to move forward and achieve your goals and well-being. We often work specifically with the instrument as well.
I am based in Stockholm but can also work via video link.
Here are the qualifications I have in my toolbox, but most important are the experiences and all the knowledge I have gained through all the musicians and groups I have met and supported over the years
Registered physiotherapist, Ergonomics training, Basic Body Awareness training, Pilates instructor, Pain School leadership training, Liberating Dance and Mindfulness instructor, Musician Ergonomics, Optimum instructor, Optimum Mind coach.
Course in musician ergonomics:
A course based on the experiences and knowledge that I have found helpful for the musicians I have met over the years. The course is for those who want to work preventively and gain more freedom in their playing, as well as those who want to work on specific pain issues.
The course is divided into four sessions, and we will work with both theory and exercises:
1. Body stability and natural balance. Theory and exercises to achieve ease and comfort when sitting and standing with your instrument.
2. Neck and shoulders. How to achieve optimal function in an area where many musicians experience stiffness, discomfort, or pain.
3. How body stability and shoulder function can provide support and freedom to the arms and hands when playing, as well as specific hand exercises.
4. Mental presence, breathing, flow. How to influence feelings such as stress, anxiety, nervousness, and performance.
