Barbro Olsson - Cert. Alexander Technique Teacher

The Alexander Technique makes you aware of your habits and helps you pay attention to how you move, e.g. how you sit, stand, bend, lift, and carry, but also how you breathe and how you react to different stimuli. If you feel stiff, tense, and have pain in your body, it may be due to how you use yourself and your body. With the help of the Alexander Technique, you become more body-aware and present, and you learn to stop habits that cause you to tense up unnecessarily and experience pain. When you can use yourself as a whole, in better balance, physically, mentally, and emotionally, you can become stronger and more mobile. You can use the Alexander Technique whenever, wherever, and however often you want to manage stress, tension, and pain. But you can also use the technique to become better at what you want to do—such as playing music, singing, dancing, and acting.

Barbro has worked as an Alexander teacher for more than 35 years and thus has extensive experience teaching musicians and other artists from, among others, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Opera, Jönköping Sinfonietta, Folkteatern, and Backateatern. She often holds courses for teachers at culture schools and has also held workshops for RUM (the Swedish National Association for Young Musicians) and Röstforum. Barbro has her own company but since 2018 has also been employed at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, where she teaches the Alexander Technique and ergonomics. You can bring your instrument to an Alexander Technique lesson. If you sing, dance, or act, we can also work on this during a lesson.
